We invest and have skin in the game
3-fold increase in the wealth and resilience of smallholder farmers in India.
Integration of learnings from other sectors and other research assignments and helping the teams to implement better, using improved systems.
Successful implementation of the model across 95 producer companies and 120,000+ farmers.
Three-fold model to build wealthy, resilient and responsible farmers:
A scale-up of Vrutti’s farm enterprise facilitation centre model, which aimed to improve the returns of smallholder producers from their agriculture and associated enterprises by increase in productivity, efficiency, quality, price, and reduction in risk, through improved practices, inputs, services, finance and an enabling ecosystem.
It offers a bundle of services to farmers and helps build and strengthen enterprise groups under farmer ownership. It is marked by:
(a) A people-public-private partnership: between the primary producers, co-creators (CMS, Vrutti, Social Venture Partners, Mindtree), promoters (Godrej Agrovet, Azim Premji Philanthropic Initiative, Edelgive, United Way) & business partners (NABARD, NABFINS, METRO, ICICI Bank, etc.); and
(b) Use of technology: Mindtree with the CMS and Vrutti team developed a mobile application to capture farmer profile, demands, practices, etc. The data of which is being used for real-time decision making.
Currently, the project covers 32,500 farmers
and will scale to 500,000 farmers by 2026.
